Home ventilation

The National Spinal Injuries Staff is funded by the Scottish Government to establish and supervise home ventilation care for patients with high tetraplegia throughout Scotland. The carers and equipment are provided by the local health and social services.

We have established national protocols for the safe management of patients with tracheostomies and on home ventilation. We train local carers and nurses in the safe management of people on ventilators and supervise their discharge home.  Following discharge patients are seen by senior nursing and medical staff every six months.
